Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Iris Alicea-Fuentes.  I am a Licensed Esthetician and Certified GinaMarie Specialist in Advance Skin Therapy and the owner of SuCara Infinity Spa.

This is my backstory version before entering the beauty industry world. I worked full time at the Chicago Transit Authority as a Motor Rapid Operator. You are probably asking what is that or what does it mean?  I recall asking that very same question when I applied for the job. It translates to—I operated an eight car train transporting clients to their destinations throughout the city of Chicago.  That was a ride and a new set of skills that came along with the job.  I can go on telling you about the fun and sometimes crazy episodes that occurred on the train. However, I will leave those types of stories for a later time as we become collaborators in healing your skin from the inside out.

So this is how my journey in the beauty industry began, fast-forward during my hiatus from the hustle and bustle of moving literally fast trains and long hours in a day, I decided to do something different with my life.  I contemplated going back to school—but this time I decided on attending a beauty school.  I settled on the school that was suitable to my interest. I attended the esthetics program. I graduated and following thereafter, I passed the State Board Esthetics Licensure for my state. Then we got hit with the worldwide global Covid-19 pandemic. Just my luck! I believe that this pandemic is not the be all and all end to the beauty industry.

Let me backtrack for a moment.  Shortly after I began attending classes, I must admit— I too started seeing changes in my own skin and wanted to understand why it was happening and what I could do to improve it?  For me it began long ago. I had no fear of the sun and thought to myself because my skin is olive-tanned, I don’t easily burn. Boy, was I wrong!  The damage was happening underneath the surface of my skin. Those pesky free radicals, the ultraviolet rays known as UVA and UVB rays were damaging my face underneath the surface of my skin and would appear as brown spots at a later date. That is what I would call it.  The correct term is hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation causation is baking in the sun for that beautiful suntan that I sought out for long periods in a day.  We all have melanin which is the natural pigment of our skin. Some people have more melanin than others. I love the sun. In fact we do need vitamin D from the sun, but all within balance so not to increase the melanin that will later cause those pesky brown spots or age spots or even melanoma cancer of the skin. It was then that I was increasingly certain about my purpose and passion in life within the beauty industry. It was more about mine and your skin that motivated me to continue on and this beauty path. It was about understanding what changes our skin goes through -during our lifespan—whether we are young or old. I wanted to learn and understand the skin as an organ to be a great resource for people when it comes to beauty and the health of their skin.  Of course, we all want beauty, that’s a given. But how do we go from youthful skin, damaged skin, to aging skin?  At some point in our lives we will see changes in our face. We can accept those changes and assist in improving the state of our skin by doing so gracefully in a manner which consistently maintains and restores the health of our skin both internally and outwardly together as a team.  So why not start where you are—with the care of your skin today?
